Foods That Trigger Fat burning Hormones

author avatar Dr. Eric Berg 08/31/2023

There are six fat-burning hormones. Each hormone has the capacity to burn fat.

One fat-burning hormone, called “growth hormone” (GH), is triggered by several amino acids (proteins). Arginine, glycine, and tryptophan all trigger the GH.

The following foods are high in these amino acids:
1. Coconuts
2. Walnuts
3. Pine nuts
4. Brazil nuts
5. Hazelnuts
6. Pecans
7. Almonds
8. Sesame seeds
9. Pumpkin seeds
10. Grapes
11. Oranges
12. Blueberries
13. Winter squash
14. Mushrooms

These nuts and seeds need not be only raw, but germinated as well. 'Germinated' means having been soaked in water overnight to flush out the enzyme inhibitors. Soak them overnight in a glass jar, rinse thoroughly, dry, then eat.

The other way to trigger the fat-burning hormones is by omission. Not eating certain foods automatically causes the body to trigger fat-burning hormones. And can you guess what those foods are?

Yes, carbohydrates. But not those of the vegetable family; you need to avoid the refined carbohydrates: bread, pasta, cakes, cookies, sugars, etc. Not eating these will cause fat burning.
